Neuromodulators: Botox® and Xeomin® use highly purified botulinum toxin to block signals that cause contractions in your dynamic muscles, allowing them to lie smooth and relaxed. Dynamic muscles in your face create extreme expressions and their resultant wrinkles, such as:

• Crow’s feet/canthal lines (from squinting)
• Eleven lines/glabellar lines (from frowning)

• Forehead furrows (from lifting your brows in surprise)

Over days to weeks, your skin smooths out and becomes wrinkle-free, just as it was when you were younger. Results typically last 3-4 months but can vary from 2-6 months.

Factors that determine how long Botox and Xeomin last:

• Total dosage given – the higher the dose, the longer the effect, however each individual is different and not all individuals need a higher dose. Dr. Alexander can assist in this determination. 
• Skin elasticity, ethnicity, gender, age, activity, metabolism, and muscle mass. The effect stops working when the muscle contraction starts to gradually return, resulting in the lines and wrinkles reappearing and needing to be treated once again. Over time the wrinkles will be less severe as the muscles are trained to relax. If the area is more relaxed, natural collagen can begin to build up once again as it is not depleted due to the constant motion of the muscles. Best results are achieved through continuous treatment every 3-6 months, and starting in your late 20's to early 30's results in less fillers and less neuromodulators later in life.
• Using sunscreen helps the effects last longer because UVA and UVB rays from the sun can penetrate the skin and damage the longevity of your Botox or Xeomin treatment.
• Wearing shades on sunny days helps prolong the effects of neuromodulators because squinting excessively can cause the treatment to wear off more quickly and create more lines.
• Free radicals damage the effects of Botox and Xeomin. Using an antioxidant serum to neutralize free radicals and protect your skin from pollution helps prolong the effects of neuromodulators.

What To Expect?

The CoolPeel laser treatment can be performed with or without a topical anesthetic, however, most patients prefer numbing cream be applied to the face prior to their procedure as it is a more sensitive area. After the numbing has been applied for 30 minutes, the handpiece will be moved across the surface of the skin delivering the energy needed to address skin issues. The treatment itself usually takes 15-20 minutes. Most people tolerate the CoolPeel treatment very easily. For the first few days after treatment, you may experience redness similar to a sunburn, mild stinging, mild swelling, along with a sandpaper feeling on the treated skin. It is essential to keep your skin adequately moisturized while healing. You may return to work the same day as your treatment but after 24 hours you should wear sunscreen.
